A "Man's Best Friend"
1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I tried the technique of close up pictures, I guess you can say I struggled with taking a solid and clear picture because of how figdety my dog is.
2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists?
With all of my photo series, and individual picture I derived my inspiration from photographer Martin Schoeller, any time I take a picture now I try the method of close up because as Martin once stated, close up pictures are the most honest pictures you can take. I chose to draw inspiration from Martin because I love the work that he does and how he is able to execute his methods perfectly.
3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
The evolution of my piece consisted of how I wanted to do and take the picture. I tried different methods and different lightings and ultimately I decided to stick with the somewhat dark lighting that I received from my room. After deciding on the lighting I studied my dog a little and looked at her every move, during that time i tried taking pictures of her to see how I should take the picture but I came out unsuccessful because of how figedty she was being, and how blurry the pictures were coming out. Ultimately I had to stop actually trying to get a good picture of my dog, I ended up taking the perfect picture when I called out her name and acted as if I wasn’t taking pictures of her.
4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time?
If I could consider doing something over it would definitely be taking the picture somewhere else because the lighting in the picture isn’t the greatest and doesn’t show the little details about my dog, so in a since it can be deceiving. So I would definitely have better lighting and try to take it with a professional camera so the quality is better than what it is now. In addition I think I would like to add more pictures of dogs so it can have better variety.
5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
My common thread is Identity, this links with my other pieces because my dog is a part of my identity. Ever since I was a little girl I had a huge love for dogs, my dog has become a part of my identity because I was able to grow up with her. With this picture I wanted to convey my love for my dog and for other dogs.
